Spirit Group 70's Themed Christmas Party : The Spirit Group held its Christmas Party with a 70's Theme in the Pell City Civic Center. There were Afro-Puffs, crushed velvet, white disco boots, mini-dresses, headbands to help bring the party back to the 1970's. With great food, real music, and dance instructions a fun time was had by all. The event was planned by Protocol (www.protocoleventplanning).

A.G. Gaston Conference : The Birmingham Business Resource Center and Advanced Planning Services united to sponsor the Fourth Annual A. G. Gaston Conference in Birmingham, Alabama. On Monday , February 18, the kickoff event was the Young Professionals Reception. Tuesday, the past and present A.G. Gaston award recipients were honored at a reception. This was followed by the opening program and panel discussion. Wednesday, the conference featured three dynamic speakers - Rev Gerald Austin Sr, Rev. Dr. Floyd Flakes, and Michael V. Roberts. Robert Dickerson, Jr. is the Executive Director of the Birmingham Business Resource Center and Gaynelle Adams Jackson is the owner of Advanced Planning Services.

Southern University Mardi Gras Ball : On Saturday, January 26, 2008 the Birmingham Chapter of Southern University Alumni Association held its twenty-six annual Mardi Gras Ball at the Exhibition Hall of the Boutwell Auditorium. Over $160,000 dollars has been given in scholarships to Birmingham Area students to attend Southern University. The reigning royal for this year's affair was - King Chris Coleman and Queen Sherea Harris. Music was provided by Private Property and the event was catered by LeRose. We drank, danced, and ate the night away - a great time was had by all.

SWACFEST : On Saturday August 16, 2008, the Birmingham SWAC Alumni Alliance held SWACFEST 2008 - the annual Family and Friends Day. We were joined by the Mayor of Fairfield the Honorable Mayor Michael Johnson an alumnus of Alabama State University. A pleasant surprise was a visit from Helen Thompson, the daughter of Franklyn W. Taylor, who started the basketball & baseball programs at Alcorn in the 1920's. Hopefully we will see you next year.
